How to Show Up CONFIDENT on Video

Raise your hand if you suddenly have to attend meetings on Zoom, Microsoft Teams, FaceTime, Google Meet, or some other video call app. πŸ™‹πŸΎβ€β™€οΈπŸ™‹πŸΎβ€β™€οΈπŸ™‹πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ You're not alone and I have some tips for how you can show up feeling less anxious, more put together, and CONFIDENT. And most of these tips aren't even about makeup!

Ready for a quick breakdown on the non-makeup tips?

  • Do your hair, MAKEUP and get DRESSED like you would on any given day. Because of course you'll feel more anxious if you're in your comfy house clothes. Do you normally talk to your boss in your sweats? If not, you definitely won’t feel confident doing so now, even if you’re at home.

  • If you're able, take those video calls in a location in your house that doesn't have distractions for YOU. Look at your background. Is there something that gives you pause that you don't want everyone to see? Make some alterations or choose a different place for those video conferences.

  • Lastly, grab a blanket and drape it over your lap. There’s a reason little kids want their blankey when feeling worried, nervous, or scared. And stuffed animals are what many kids grab in those moments, too! I wouldn't be caught even thinking about going to a doctor without my stuffed animal, Wrinkles. You never know when there's a finger prick or shot in your future as a kid when heading to the doctor! The same comfort kids feel about blankets and stuffed animals will serve to lessen your stress as an adult on those video calls. It will give you a bit of comfort that can help relax your nerves. . . and no one can see it on camera. Win, win!
